Midwinter Series, 2011 – 12

Results: Race 1 (Abandoned) - Race 2 – Race 3 (Abandoned) – Race 4- Race 5 – Standings

Nov 6th – Race 1 was postponed, almost started, postponed again, then two fleets started on a reverse course as the winds had backed, clocked then switched 180 degrees then died again. After one hour and 45 minutes, the race was abandoned. It may be a throw out or it may be resailed. If resailed, watch for a Notice to Competitors to that effect.

Dec 4th – Race 2 almost started, but the wind shifted 45 degrees after the first warning. After a 50 minute delay when the winds settled to a westerly, the race got off to Blackaller and an excellent steady breeze all through the race. Some spirited racing caused some near misses and some not so near misses. Congratulations to all who made it out for a wonderful sunny day on the bay.

Jan 8th – Race 3 never even got close to starting. The weather was sunny, warm and windless with a slack current at noon building to a 4.9 ebb by 3:30. However, the race was abandoned just before 2:00 when it was apparent that no breeze would build in the afternoon. The race was dedicated to the memory of Rob Moore, a former SYC member who was active on the original club newsletter, the Squeege, raced on Summertime Dream and Yucca and was generally an outdoors loving individual. Rob also was a race editor at Latitude 38. Rob died Friday Jan 5th of lung cancer at the age of 58. Proceeds of racers entered for the single race as well as a collection at the club after the race were donated to the National Lung Cancer Foundation in Rob’s memory.

Look for a Notice to Competitors for a two-race day on the first Sunday in March.
