Sausalito Parking Lot Changes

July 30, 2010  |   News   |   Rod B  |   Comments Off

The City of Sausalito has rolled out a new parking lot system that affects SYC. The parking lot gate has been removed and embedded ground sensors paired with pay stations have replaced the previous ticket-based system.

Sausalito residents will be issued a new resident card to use at the pay station to obtain their limited, free parking. Residents have been mailed temporary hang tags until the new cards are issued.

How it Affects SYC

SYC members will be able to park free in the SYC members-only parking lot. Members should be sure to display their SYC parking sticker on their vehicle(s). Out of courtesy to out-of-town members, local resident members should use the main parking lot, and display their hang tag on their vehicle to obtain their limited, free parking time.

NOTICES:

1)  Vehicles parked in the the SYC parking lot WITHOUT a SYC parking sticker WILL BE TICKETED.

2)  Non-Resident Members: If you park outside of the SYC members-only lot, you will be required to pay for the parking spot at the pay station. If you don’t, you will be ticketed.

The New System

Each parking space in the public lots is assigned a space number. A sensor is embedded in each space, sensing when a vehicle pulls into the space. The sensor wirelessly informs the pay station that a vehicle has pulled in, and the software then allows 5 minutes for the customer to pre-pay for parking.

Residents can park free for up to three hours in city lots. Residents, commuters, merchants and permit holders will eventually be issued SmartCards in place of prox cards and permits (currently not expected for 90 days). In the interim, residents should have received a special hang tag in the mail. If you did not get one, you should go to the parking booth near Lot #2 with a government issued ID and rent or service receipt proving residency.

The new parking payment machines (blue and marked with a large “P”) will take credit cards, debit cards and coins. Soon you’ll even be able to extend your parking time from your smart phone, but that part of the service has not yet been activated.

RESIDENTS

Residents may continue to park for free for up to 3 consecutive hours every day between the hours of 8am and 6pm. YOUR HANG-TAG MUST BE DISPLAYED to receive free parking or you will be cited. If you are staying longer than 3 hours, you may buy more time at any pay station by entering your space number and then paying by coin or credit/debit card.  YOU WILL NO LONGER BE BILLED QUARTERLY FOR OVERAGES.

After 6pm, residents receive unlimited free parking until 8am the following morning.  YOUR HANG-TAG MUST BE DISPLAYED to receive free parking or you will be cited.
