We need volunteers to host and provide housing for racing teams, coaches and support staff.

The Sausalito Yacht Club is honored to be hosting the 2008 U.S. Junior Women's Doublehanded Championship.  This is the first national regatta our club has hosted in many years.

The Regatta Team and volunteers are all excited to have this opportunity to show our dedication to this outstanding sport and to support these young women who will go on to become the next generation of Olympic champions and top sailors in their class!

Most of the participants are coming from other parts of the U.S.  As host of the Regatta; SYC is responsible for coordinating local housing for all competitors as well as the coaches, judges, trainers, and other professionals supporting the event.  In terms of the number of accommodations we will need to provide, there will be approximately 80 young women competitors (40 teams of two) and about a dozen coaches, judges, and trainers.

So our work is cut out for us!

The regatta begins with registration and an opening ceremony on Monday, July 7th, and concludes with the awards banquet on Saturday, July 12th. We anticipate most of the participants will be arriving Saturday or Sunday (July 5th or 6th), and leaving Sunday, July 13th.

The opportunity to host these young women in your home comes with several benefits.  The first benefit is, of course, being able to forge a stronger connection with the sport through getting to know one or more of the competitors and knowing that you contributed to their positive experience of our club, the regatta, and have helped them on their way to future challenges.

Additional benefits include an invitation to club-provided breakfasts and dinners with the competitors each day of the regatta, invitations to the opening and award ceremonies, the opportunity to watch the competition from spectator boats, which will be on the water each day, and an invitation to a thank-you dinner for supporters of the event.  There will also be a special thank you gift provided to host families.

Regardless of whether you decide to host a competitor (or two), or a coach, judge, or trainer, this experience will enrich your appreciation of the sport, the club, and help young women to achieve their aspirations in sailing while building lifelong relationships.

Please consider whether you have the space, the time, and the interest to provide much-needed accommodations for these striving young women and the others who make this competition possible.  You will be very pleased you did, and you will be recognized and appreciated by all!,
