Gas Light Benefit Cruise Sept 30
Join us on the schooner Gas Light for a beautiful fall cruise to benefit the Sam Hock Youth Sailing Program, September 30, from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
We will depart from the SYC dock, then cruise the shores of Tiburon, Belvedere and the canals of Strawberry. The tides are perfect for an intimate view of areas normally too shallow to navigate.
Gas Light is a replica scow schooner based in Sausalito. This opportunity may be the last for a while as Billy Martinelli, owner and builder, is sailing her to Mexico this fall. We will have Leslie’s famous cuisine and complimentary wine.
Cruise is limited to the first 45 people. Cost is $75. E-mail gm@sausalitoyachtclub.org.
All donations go to the Sausalito Youth Sailing Foundation.
You can find more information about Gas Light at Gas Light Charters.

50th Anniversary of SYC Club House is September 24
It was 50 years ago that Sausalito Yacht Club members realized their dream of their own clubhouse on San Francisco Bay. Their volunteer efforts in designing and building the clubhouse resulted in a structure that has withstood the years and provided a home to our active club.
Come to the club the evening of September 24 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this achievement. Yes, there will be a birthday cake.
Don’t miss the photo gallery on our Web site of photos from the construction and opening of the clubhouse. Follow this link to the gallery: SYC Clubhouse Gallery.

9th Annual Golf Tournament “The Buddy Cup” Sept 26
| When: | SEPTEMBER 26th, 2010 |
| Where: | Indian Valley Golf Club |
| 3035 Novato Blvd. ~ Novato | |
| Format: | Four Person Scramble |
| Time: | Starting Tee-Off at 10:30 a.m. |
| Cost: | $95 per Golfer (includes Green Fees, Cart, $5.00 Pro Shop credit) |
Application Form: 2010 Buddy Cup Application (print and mail)
Way, way long ago, 2002 to be exact, Buddy DeBruyn served as our Commodore. Buddy had previously been our Sausalito Mayor. He also happens to be a very good golfer, and that year was the birth of the “SYC BUDDY CUP.”
This is a tournament for all levels of players. It’s a tournament for fun and camaraderie, but alas there are always those great golfers who think they need to win. So be it – there will always be a winner. But to even things out a little we will be golfing a “Blind Bogey.” That means that on three or four holes of play, those holes will be a bogey hole for everyone. We will have prizes for men’s and women’s closest-to-the-hole and longest drives. We will play a “Best Ball” format in which each player must be accountable for at least two drives and you play the best of the foursome’s drives.
This year we will be playing at the Indian Valley Golf Course. It’s a beautiful course nestled in southern Novato where there are times one must wait for the wild turkeys and the wild deer to clear the fairway.

The starting Tee time will be 10:30. We will have oysters at the turn and a roving beverage cart on the course to quench one’s thirst. Following the tournament we will have the “AWARDS HOEDOWN DINNER” at the club around 6:00, with BBQ’d ribs and chicken with all the Texas side dishes where we will also be watching the film of the day’s festivities.
Please look online and in your August and September billing for the registration forms (also at the top of this page). We will need a head count by September 15th for the tournament director.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me.

Rear Commodore’s Cruise & Race to Vallejo
Join Us for a Race/Cruise out to Vallejo Yacht Club on June 26, 2010
The Cruise
This annual event is one that you don’t want to miss. It’s the one time SYC sailors who usually only cruise get to expose themselves to all the challenges of racing and test their boat handling skills against some of the more “hard core” racers in SYC…all done in a spirit of comaraderie and just downright fun.
Power Boat folks and Land Cruisers always enjoy this cruise as well. Sitting at the Vallejo Yacht Club, sipping a cool libation and watching some of the exciting finishes is always a great way to pass an afternoon.
The Race
Notice of Race prepared by the Race Committee can be downloaded on the following link.
The race ends in front of the Vallejo Yacht Club. The boats are docked and then docktails are the order of the day. This is all followed with a great dinner at the Vallejo Yacht Club and an awards ceremony.
The Moorings
The Fun and Food: Buffet Diner $15
As is our custom, you are asked to bring light munchies to the club about 4 pm and patronize their bar before dinner. (We do not do a separate dock-tails at this event). Race awards will be announced before dinner. The VYC is in the midst of a big seawall fund raising effort and will invite their members to join our event if there are any spaces left over
Note: Tides are favorable Saturday, but we will want to be on our way by 1000 am Sunday as they VYC has only 5 feet depth at low tide and low tide is about noon.
If I don’t hear from you I’ll have to make the choice for you, sorry.
We will be having our usual docktails before dinner but please patronize the yacht club as much as possible. They really roll out the red carpet for us as those of us who have been there before can attest.
